CARLISLE TRAFFIC JAMS & PARKING
Traffic jams going into and out of a Carlisle Car Show
are infamous. Jam ups going though the city of Carlisle
and even right out onto Interstate 81 are common, especially
at the Spring and Fall evens. My best advice is plan on
arriving before 7:AM. After 7:AM, the traffic jam builds
up quickly. If you can’t get there before 7:AM,
avoid the city. Carlisle Car Shows are located at the
Fairgrounds in the northeast corner of the city of Carlisle.
There’s a good back way coming in from the northeast
corner. On I-81, get off exit 57 and head north 1 mile
on rt. 114 to the red light. Turn left on rt. 944 west
and follow it to rt. 34, turn left and follow 34 south
to the Fair grounds. Even if you’re coming in from
the opposite direction, you may want to circle around
Carlisle and come this route.
Unless you want to park over 1 mile away from the Carlisle
Car Show, you’re going to have to pay for parking.
Parking generally costs $5 to $10. Anyone with a yard
is collecting money to park. I feel the best parking is
on the east side of the Fairgrounds, outside of gates
5, 6 & 7. When entering the Fairground from the north
going south on rt. 34, turn left at the first red light
as your coming into Carlisle, onto Cavalry Rd. and go
across the bridge crossing the Turnpike. Good parking
close the gates is on your right just past the Armory.
It’s $5. per car or truck, more if you’ve
got a trailer or RV. During the Spring and Fall events,
parking is available at the Armory for $5 and it’s
free if you’re in the military. Just flash you military
ID on your way in. This lot does not except trucks with
trailers or RV’s.
If you choose to spend more than 1 day at a Carlisle
Car Show, you’re going to need lodging. For those
needs, check out our Carlisle
Hotels page. Reserve your room early; other wise you’ll
be looking at over a hour commute each way in and out
of the event.
